5 Movies That Deserve to be Remade

Hollywood is full of remakes these days, and most of them never live up to the standards of the original movies, for example The Karate Kid reboot and Psycho remake are just a disgrace to the original movies. But some movies do need a remakes and reboots to introduce such incredible stories to a new audience. So here are 5 movies that I think deserve remakes or reboots.

55 Days at Peking (1963)

Okay so the original movie isn't really a masterpiece of classic cinema, but the true story that the movie is based on is something that has the potential to be a huge blockbuster.
In 1900 China was occupied by many countries including Britain, America, Russia, France, and several other European counties without the permission of China, so China basically told the countries that had to leave or there would be war. The countries refused which resulted in a battle between china and an 8 Nation Alliance. The 8 Nation Alliance took refuge in the city of Peking (Beijing) and a 55 day siege took place with only 18,000 people taking on the army of 80,000 Chinese soldiers.
My main criticism of the movie is that it only really showed the battle from the British and American perspective, but if it was to be remade I think it would be great to show the perspective of the Chinese people as well.

Zulu (1964)

The Zulu movies have more sentimental value to me than any other film, growing up with my grandparents brining me up, it was part of my routine to watch an old movie with my Grandfather on a Sunday afternoon after dinner and nearly every week it would be Zulu, and I loved it. A great story that really needs to be shown and cherished by another generation.
In 1879 a regiment of British soldiers are outnumbered greatly by a Zulu army, but they must defend their station and not leave any wounded men behind. Come on the story is just perfect and I can see it do great in both the academy awards and box office success.
With a movie that is so close to my heart a remake of this film needs to be done perfectly or not at all, maybe with original cast members such as Michael Caine returning for different roles in the movie.

Spawn (1997)

It's not often that I'd say a superhero movie needs a remake because cinema is full of them at the moment, but when a hero is as big of a badass as Spawn then it's difficult to ignore it.
Out of all the comic book companies that are making movie, Dark House is definitely behind DC and Marvel, but the Hellboy movies were absolutely incredible and I would love to see such a creative director such as Guillermo Del Toro get his hands on a movie would be absolute movie perfection, he made the Hellboy movies outstanding so he should definitely be given the chance to make a Spawn movie.
The cinematic universe of superheroes really hasn't given us much dark and twisted anti-heroes like Spawn, but with a good cast, director and budget, a new Spawn movie could show DC and Marvel the true force that Dark Horse comics can bring to the movies.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)

With a cast as good as the 2003 League of Extraordinary Gentlemen including Sean Connery and Stuart Townsend and a list of iconic characters such as Mr Hyde, Dorian Grey, The Invisible Man and Tom Sawyer surely this movie was set out to be a massive success. But that wasn't the case, with a storyline that was way too much to keep up with and some bad special effects, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a huge disappointment.
But that doesn't mean it won't make a bad film. If it had a director like Ridley Scott behind the wheel of the movie and a similar cast, the movie could kick off a franchise that would be nothing but utter cinematic success. And with a company like ILM or Weta doing the special effects the visuals could be something like we've never seen before. With action scenes that could really be breathtaking.

The Dark Crystal (1982)

I know it would be a shame to see one of Jim Henderson's masterpieces of puppet work be remade without him, but come on, imagine a live action remake of the movie by a director like Guillermo Del Toro controlling it all, it would be nothing but beautiful. A contrast between light and dark, innocent and evil, Guillermo is known for it. But with some astonishing visual effects and motion capture performances from people such as Andy Serkis and Ron Perlman, this has the potential to be the best fantasy movie of the century. With a good combination of CGI and practical sets, we just know that Guillermo could pull it off perfectly, just look how astonishing Pan's Labyrinth is. A remake could be terrifying the new generation children just as it terrified me growing up.
