Spiderman is in Captain America Civil War!!

While we pretty much knew this was happening for a while, Robert Downey Jr. has officially confirmed that Spider-Man will be in the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Captain America: Civil War.

Downey told Entertainment Weekly that he and Don Cheadle (who plays War Machine) were standing around on set and taking in all the new characters that were going to make their debuts in the film, including the web slinging hero.

"We're now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight because of our history in the [canon]," Downey said. "But we're also looking around like, 'Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man...?' I mean it's like wow, this is just crazy."

Still, despite Downey's less than subtle inclusion of Spider-Man in the cast of characters, Chris Evans and directors Joe and Anthony Russo sidestepped questions about the character's involvement in the film.

"You never know with Marvel," Evans said. "Sometimes they shoot things and just don't use them."

Even with Evans' half-assed attempt to keep Spider-Man a secret, it's finally official thatCaptain America: Civil War will be Peter Parker's introduction into the MCU.

The news follows months of secret meetings between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures executives over splitting the rights to one of the most popular characters in comic book history. On Feb. 9 of this year, Marvel finally made the announcement that Spider-Man would be returning home, but details of just how he'd be incorporated into the movies were kept under wraps until just recently.

Tom Holland was announced as the new Peter Parker back in June and will star in his very own Spider-Man movie in 2017.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.
