While this doesn’t exactly count as a definite answer – he teasingly doesn’t sign the contract papers delivered by Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor – and there has been no official announcement from either Moffat or the BBC on the subject, would the man who made the Lord Of The Rings movies really go this far just to troll everyone on the topic? All right, so the man who also made Meet The Feebles and Bad Taste almost certainly would, but it seems like an awful lot of effort, not to mention the inclusion of Capaldi, just to make an elaborate joke. Perhaps this is Moffat finally collecting on some deal they made when Moffat co-wrote the first (and so far only) Adventures Of Tintin film, which Jackson produced and worked on as second unit director.
Watch this space for news of any official confirmation on the matter, but at least we know the dream of a Doctor Who episode directed by Jackson remains alive.
In related news from the Who-niverse, we now know that the latest Christmas special of the series will be called The Husbands Of River Song, and finds the Doctor summoned from seclusion by Alex Kingston's River Song for a chase involving an angry king and an out-of-control robot bodyguard. The show will, as per tradition, air on December 25 and the first image is below.
